  I recently asked my wife to buy a wood stove thermometer from Hearthside & Home. The salesman recommended a thermometer which she purchased for around $20. I opened the package and discovered the thermometer was designed for the vent pipe on a free standing stove. Since we have a wood stove insert, I need the style that attaches to the stove top, not the vent pipe. I assumed that it would be no problem to exchange this thermometer for the correct style. When my wife returned and asked for an exchange, the salesman refused claiming since the blister pac package had opened, the thermometer could not be exchanged or returned. My wife eventually got a refund, after threatening to contact our credit card company and refuse payment. Frankly I don't understand how a small business can expect a customer to drop $2000 for a fireplace or stove when they jerk you around for a $20 part. Especially since they made no effort to help the customer choose the correct part.
